13. SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING ABILITY
How does it differ between the digital learning
and workplace context?
When you transfer from the digital learning to workplace application
there are 3 key differences you should be aware of:
Digital Learning predominantly takes place in the online
environment, using digital platforms, courses and resources
with remote access. Meanwhile workplace learning can involve
classroom training, on-the-job training, mentoring and other
activities that take place directly within the organisation,
creating more direct interaction with the work environment.
Similarly, digital communication will occur remotely, while the
workplace provides opportunities for direct interaction with
colleagues, supervisors and mentors, facilitating collaboration,
face-to-face communication and the development of
professional relationships.
Digital Learning allows for customization of the pace and
content of learning to suit the learner's individual preferences
and pace while on-the-job training can be more structured and
rigid, adapting to the specific needs of the organisation and
having less flexibility in terms of individual learning pace.
Digital Learning allows access to a range of online resources
using digital technologies to deliver content, while the
workplace allows the use of organisation-specific resources
such as manuals, internal guides, customised training sessions
and access to mentors and in-house experts.
