1. GROWTH ORIENTATION AND MOTIVATION
Key approaches to implementing
the skill in a workplace
There is a number of ways how can you act on your growth
orientation and motivation in your workplace, in an effective
and career-oriented way[1][2][3]:
Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth –
remember that every setback is an occasion for think
out of the box, experimenting with new solutions,
testing and developing your creativity and problem-
solving skills, as well as identifying key areas for
development that can be relevant for your professional
success. When other people focus on problems, look
for opportunities to apply your skills and learn.
Be proactive in seeking learning opportunities. In your
workplace do not wait passively till someone offers you
directly instructions for your personal development,
but seek them by asking questions, engaging with your
colleagues in conversations about their work and skills
required, or offer support or ask to shadow people with
more knowledge than you to learn from them whenever
it does not interfere with your own tasks. Inform your
managers that you wish to grow in your role and
company and seek their advice how could you do it. If
your executives do not care for your development, look
for other experience employees that do not mind share
their advise and are able appreciate your motivation.
Be goal oriented. Set your personal development goals
and define the direction you wish to grow as a
professional to guide your development efforts.
