TIK Technik
TIK Technik in Kürze – the project takes place through the Catholic Education Agency Styria, a public
institution of adult education in Austria. The aim of the project is to help older people with little or
no prior knowledge of digital technologies become more familiar with them and the challenges they
bring by tablet and smartphone courses. The project not only gives the opportunity to attend
different classes, but also offers all necessary materials to organize your own course. The entire
learning support can be downloaded for free.
Why is relevant for adult educators and adult education centers?
Why this case study is a success / best practice?
The programme offers two types of services: 1) Free technical hotline and free tablet courses for
newcomers. The students, mostly elderly people, are introduced to the use of smartphones, tablets,
PCs and laptops. The participants can bring their own devices, or they can use the ones available on-
site. The courses are organized with 5 participants and more and the topics include starting a digital
device, basic information, how to deal with images, mailbox, messages and manage different
applications and keep your internet experience safe. 2) Advanced tablet courses and smartphone
courses for newcomers and advanced people. The participants learn about main operating systems
and main activities they can carry out with these devices: write text messages, use the camera, and 58
manage photo library, use different applications, and find out more about internet security and
appropriate use. The courses can be personalized to the smartphone brand the students choose.
The initiative can be considered as a good practice example because it offers courses specially
developed for seniors and all necessary information for handling tablets and smartphones. The
learning modules addresses a wide range of users’ needs, from basic knowledge to advanced use.
Older people can call at the free hotline which facilitates their quick access to digital information
which contributes to their social inclusion among other people.
5.32 ROMANIA
Teach for future
Teach for future – the project offered the opportunity to over 500 adults in Romania, Bulgaria and
Greece to attend innovative courses on three main areas of interest: Information and
Communication Technology, Management of Innovation & Network Collaboration, and
Entrepreneurship & Leadership. These learning experiences helped them a lot in their professional
career.
The initial aim of the project was to train the library staff on the three main topics above in order to
be able to organise creative activities that will attract more adults to libraries. Along the
development phases, the project partners thought about creating a high-quality learning offer that
