3. FOCUS MASTERY AND MAINTENENCE
Cases of application for the job market
B.
During my previous role, I led an important project
with tight deadlines. When our colleague fell ill
leaving significant part of work falling behind and I
needed to take it over, I knew staying focused was
the key.
To ensure I stayed on track, I set up a quiet
workspace with minimal distractions. I used noise-
cancelling headphones to block out surrounding
noise and a planner to map out my daily tasks.
When unexpected problems appeared, I took a moment to take a breath and then
sit down to focus on adopting a systematic approach to them. I broke down each
issue into smaller parts, analysing and focusing on solving them step by step. For
instance, when a crucial part of the project faced a technical glitch, I researched
solutions during designated time blocks to make sure I will not ignore other key
aspects. I sought advice from colleagues and created a checklist to ensure I
covered all possible solutions. By focussing on a systematic plan, I managed to
resolve the issues effectively without losing focus on the project's main goal.
To meet the tight deadline, I prioritized tasks based on their urgency and
importance. I divided the project into manageable sections, setting specific
deadlines for each. By keeping to this timeline and allocating extra time for
unexpected issues, I ensured the project progressed steadily and the team wasn’t
distracted by overwhelming stress levels. Ultimately, with this focused work, I
successfully completed the project on time showing everyone how I and my team
can focus on what needs to be done even under strong pressure.
How you will apply focus in action will depend on your tasks, but make sure you
will apply the basic principles to deal with challenges of day-to-day activities in
your workplace and clearly show your value as an employee.
