5. AUTONOMOUS LEARNING AND WORK
Cases of application for the job market
B.
Working as a custodial staff member at a local
community center, I noticed that our cleaning
routines where not very efficient. That
affected the center's overall cleanliness and
hygiene and there were some complains about
the state of the space.
Despite being in a low-skilled role, I was disappointed that despite putting
much effort in making my job right people were dissatisfied and I knew I could
make a positive difference. I began by assessing the way we do things and
identified some issues and areas for improvement. I realized that main
complains are related to our inability to ensure cleanliness during the most
busy hours with our current organization of work. So I took the initiative and
developed a plan to enhance our cleaning routines.
I suggested a revised cleaning schedule that allocated more time to high-
traffic areas, and linked them to the most busy time of use ensuring better
sanitation. Taking the lead in this initiative, I communicated my proposed
changes to the management and outlined the potential benefits of
implementing these improvements.
Upon approval, I explained the new approach to the cleaning staff and trained
them regarding the new procedure and also created visual aids and checklists
to ensure consistent compliance and easy understanding of the updated
procedures.
The results were remarkable. The center's cleanliness visibly improved, and
there was a noticeable reduction in complaints regarding hygiene.
